| After many years of laying pipes, hoses, pumping
water up from the creek and any other method possible, in 1999 members of the club raised
money delivering phone books to allow polly pipe to be layed with rows of pop up
sprinklers insatalled in strategic locations. Once again all the labour was donated and this added up to many days of peoples time and effort. As of January 2000, there are still a number of lines that need to be laid to complete the systems planned. With the completed lines and existing taps and timers running from a bore, we can water up to 1/2 of the oval only by switchinig a few taps on and off. This is a tremendous saving of time for oval maintenance people.

Watering the pitch at the end of a game is so much easier these days... |
| The new nets were built after securing grant monies from the "Active Club Developing Recreation and Sport with Poker Machine Funds". Many players were involved at some stage of the work with all labour being donated. A special mention needs to be made to Mr Ian White; concretor, who generously donated his time and efforts to lay the concrete for the two full length practice pitches. | ![]() |
| This building was purchased from the John Wesley Tennis Club for $200.00.
It was quite an exercise moving it in one piece from Strathalbyn Oval to the Ashbourne
Oval. Since it has been in place it forms the centre of match day activities, housing
drinks, afternoon tea and scorers from time to time. It has been painted and will get some addition maintenance to complete the project. This "bar" makes a welcome addition to the Ashbourne Cricket Club environs. |

Ashbourne's Grandstand

| The well known and well used Ashbourne "Grandstand", 4 tiers of
seating at one of the most picturesque grounds in the Association. This stand was made and installed in 199? by members of the club known as "Long, Broad, Turn and Stan" and that is how it is named! |

Improving the Web Site
Commencement
This Web Page was commenced over the Christmas holidays in the 1999/2000 cricket season and it will probably continue to grow for some time. Although I have been at this club for four seasons, after researching the club's history for only a few weeks, it is obvious that I am only a "new boy on the block". If you explore this site you will find life long commitments by people to a sport, recreation and a part of the way of life at that time. It appears to me whats more that many people played cricket much longer than we do today. There is a story of Mr John Meyer taking out an Association bowling trophy at the age of seventy for example!
Aim
| Anyway the aim of this web page; although of limited interest to most people, is to capture the essence of a club steeped with history, stories, comraderie and ways of life nearly forgotten before it is too late to be documented. In preparing to publish this work I have uncovered minute books that are over one hundred years old and starting to crumble, old photos, memories and much more. However many of the club's participants have moved on in one way or another so I dedicated my efforts to those who have been a part of this club in any capacity in days gone by. |
